VUMC physicians are receiving calls to personal phones from individuals claiming to be from the Tennessee Department of Health’s Board of Medical Examiners. The calls are from scammers attempting to solicit personal information.

The Board of Medical Examiners confirms they are receiving multiple questions asking about the calls and whether this is a scam.

Investigators with the Board of Medical Examiners typically contact VUMC’s Office of Accreditation & Standards to speak with physicians or physician assistants or send requests for information in writing.

The advice from the Board of Medical Examiners for those who receive a call from an individual claiming to be from the Board should note the name of the caller but not provide any information. VUMC physicians who receive a scam call should provide notice of the call and caller’s name (if possible) to Accreditation & Standards at regulatoryaffairs@vumc.org

Accreditation & Standards will determine if the inquiry is legitimate. If legitimate, further communication with Department of Health will be arranged through the office.
