Are you interested in helping researchers learn more about how certain medications can help improve type 1 diabetes treatment soon after diagnosis?
Participation involves research visits to Vanderbilt on four mornings over approximately 6-7 months (study team can provide details).
You may be eligible for this study if you:
- Are age 12-50
AND
- Were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (stage 3) within the past eight weeks
AND
- Have a BMI between 18-31 kg/m2
Researchers want to determine whether repurposing a medication called a Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist for type 1 diabetes can enhance a patient’s ability to secrete insulin.
This improvement may eventually reduce the need for insulin injections in this early stage of type 1 diabetes, leading to improved cardiometabolic outcomes.
This study involves:
- A physical exam
- Blood and urine tests
- A mixed meal tolerance test (MMTT)
- Receiving a study medication or placebo
- An ultrasound to examine the health of a blood vessel in your arm
You will be compensated for your participation.
