Vanderbilt Health has been named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s 2025 “Great Hospitals in America” list, recognized for excellence in clinical care, patient safety and health care innovation.
According to Becker’s, the 100 hospitals featured on this list are honored for “delivering excellent clinical care, prioritizing patient safety, and driving innovation through research, education and continuous improvement.” The hospitals recognized have earned top-tier outcomes and distinctions from leading ranking and awards organizations for outstanding performance across multiple specialties.
Vanderbilt Health is the largest comprehensive academic health system in the Mid-South, delivering care through seven hospitals, more than 1,700 licensed beds and over 180 ambulatory locations, supporting more than 3.2 million patient visits annually. According to U.S. News & World Report for 2025-26, the Medical Center is the top hospital in Nashville and Tennessee and is ranked as the best pediatric hospital in the state and in the Southeast. Newsweek recognized the Medical Center as No. 21 in the nation for 2025.
As a global leader in research, Vanderbilt Health receives more than $1 billion annually in research funding and ranked as the fifth-largest recipient of National Institutes of Health funding in the nation for fiscal year 2024. With major expansions underway, including the Jim Ayers Tower, the Medical Center continues to expand advanced heart, lung, transplant, neuroscience and surgical care for the region.
Becker’s noted that the featured institutions are “shaping the future of medicine through groundbreaking discoveries and technological advancements,” with influence that extends beyond their local communities to move the entire health care industry forward. The Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on analyses of recent achievements, including U.S. News & World Report and Newsweek rankings, Healthgrades awards, CMS star ratings and safety grades from The Leapfrog Group.
