The 100th histotripsy patient; drinking water sodium levels and blood pressure; wet hair and risk of getting a cold; plus other stories with Vanderbilt Health sources

WTVF News Channel 5 reporter Forrest Sanders spent the day at VUH covering a patient story about Aaron Davis, who was the 100th Vanderbilt Health patient to undergo histotripsy, a novel procedure that “liquefies” cancer cells in the liver in a non-invasive surgery. Sekhar Padmanabhan, MD, assistant professor of Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery, gave an interview in the operating room.

Healio reported on research from Rajat Das Gupta, PhD, postdoctoral research fellow, that indicates that the level of naturally occurring sodium in drinking water, which varies by region and water source, is a risk factor for elevated blood pressure.

Jillian Wilson with HuffPost interviewed Parul Goyal, MD, FACP, associate professor of Medicine, to ask about the idea that going out with wet hair can make you come down with a cold. (It cannot).

Time reporter Stacey Colinointerviewed Kim Sandler, MD, professor of Radiology, for a story about lung cancer screening guidelines. CNN International also used the story. 

CNN reporter Tami Luhby interviewed Stacie Dusetzina, PhD, professor of Health Policy, for a story about what to expect from the launch of TrumpRx, the administration’s direct-to-consumer drug platform. Dusetzina was also interviewed about TrumpRx by Reuters.

Kathryn Edwards, MD, professor of Pediatrics, emerita, and William Schaffer, MD, professor of Preventive Medicine, were quoted in a Healio story about childhood vaccine schedules.

John Graves, PhD, professor of Health Policy, was quoted by CNBC in a story about how rising prices for ACA coverage may lead some people to drop the coverage, and how that can raise rates for everyone else.
