REDCap, or Research Electronic Data Capture, is a secure web platform for building and maintaining online databases and surveys, launched at Vanderbilt Health in 2004 by Paul Harris, PhD, professor of Biomedical Informatics and Vice President for Research Informatics. At last count, the platform had 4.2 million users working at 8,242 institutions in 164 countries.
The platform is maintained for users around the world by Harris’ team at the Office of Research Informatics at the Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, where Rob Taylor serves as manager of application development.
Along with a review of new and upcoming features, this year’s REDCap Fest for the Vanderbilt/Meharry Medical College community included sessions on interesting and creative use cases, integration of REDCap with the electronic health record, the mobile phone application MyCap, REDCap and artificial intelligence, guidance on migrating projects to a new REDCap instance at Vanderbilt University, and more.
