Clint Brown, MBA, who has been serving as interim co-director for the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) since August 2012, has been named the office’s new director.
In this new role Brown is responsible for all aspects of pre-award grant management for Vanderbilt University. He will serve as the institutional official for OSP program activities, including grants and cooperative agreements to federal and state agencies, foundations and corporations.
In addition to ensuring a high level of service support is provided to principal investigators and departmental administrators campus wide, Brown and his staff are also responsible for monitoring sponsored programs, proposals and awards for compliance with agency and Vanderbilt regulations.
“We have developed a team of research administration professionals who are supporting our faculty and administrators in a timely and effective manner,” said John F. Manning Jr., Ph.D., MBA, associate vice chancellor for Health Affairs and chief administrative officer for Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
“Having a permanent director for the OSP allows us to move the office to its next phase. I am very pleased that Clint has agreed to lead this group.”
Brown has been with Vanderbilt since January 2006 and has served in a variety of roles within research administration, both within the Medical Center and the University. Prior to joining Vanderbilt, he served as a fiscal management reviewer for the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C., and also served as the director of Financial Affairs for Tennessee State University’s Center of Excellence for Research Policy.
“Vanderbilt is a top-tier academic and research institution fostering the knowledge and innovation of internationally renowned scholars, scientists and clinicians,” Brown said. “One of my favorite aspects of working within research administration is having the opportunity to interact with this very diverse and extraordinary group of accomplished individuals. I am honored to have the opportunity to continue to serve the faculty and staff, while leading OSP through certain growth and the ever changing world of sponsored program administration.”
Brown earned his Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in business information systems and quantitative methods from Tennessee State University. He is also a Certified Research Administrator.
The OSP is located on the third floor of the Sony/BMG office building at 1400 18th Ave. S., behind The Commons at Vanderbilt. For more information about the OSP go to http://www.vanderbilt.edu/osp/.
