Clinicians play key roles on national licensing boards

Six Vanderbilt University Medical Center clinicians participated in activities in 2017 for the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) and United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).

 

Six Vanderbilt University Medical Center clinicians participated in activities in 2017 for the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) and United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).

Jane Easdown, MD, MHPE, professor of Anesthesiology, and Roy Neeley, MD, assistant professor of Clinical Anesthesiology, served on the test committee that develops and reviews the test items from which the USMLE is composed.

Peter Donofrio, MD, professor of Neurology, served on the Interdisciplinary Review Committee responsible for the review and approval of all items to be included in the test item library, ensuring the accuracy and currency of items to be included on the examinations. Donofrio also served on the Clinical Neurology Psychiatry Task Force.

Bonnie Miller, MD, Senior Associate Dean for Health Sciences Education and Executive Vice President of Educational Affairs, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, served as a Medical School Liaison Representative with oversight responsibility for Vanderbilt University School of Medicine’s connection to the NBME secure website and the individuals at VUSM designated to have access to it. In this role, Miller assumed responsibility for exploring NBME and USMLE issues at Vanderbilt and for disseminating relevant information to appropriate individuals at the medical school.

Ruth Wolever, PhD, associate professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, served as a Health and Wellness Coach Item Writer and on the Health and Wellness Coaches Task Force.

Steven Eskind, MD, assistant professor of Surgery, served on the Surgery Item Writing Review Group.
