Paul Ridker, MD, MPH, the Eugene Braunwald Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, will present the 12th annual Meredith S. and John A. Oates Lectureship in Clinical Pharmacology, on Thursday, Nov. 15, during Medicine Grand Rounds.
His lecture, titled “Inflammation and Atherothrombosis: From Theory to Proven Intervention,” will begin at 8 a.m. in room 208 Light Hall.
Ridker, director of the Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, specializes in atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease and is internationally recognized for his research on the role of inflammation and CRP (C-reactive protein) in atherothrombosis.
A fellow of the American College of Cardiology, he has been principal investigator or study chairman of several multinational clinical trials including CANTOS, which demonstrated a clear clinical benefit of targeting inflammation in high-risk patients with cardiovascular disease.
The Oates lectureship is named for John Oates, M.D., the Thomas F. Frist Sr. Professor of Medicine, professor of Pharmacology and founding director of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, and his wife, Meredith.
