Talk to focus on racial disparities in colorectal cancer
John Carethers, M.D., chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan, will discuss reasons for racial disparities in colorectal cancer today at noon in 202 Light Hall.
The lecture, hosted by the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, is open to the public.
Carethers is a recognized expert on the mechanisms of tumor progression and DNA mismatch repair in colorectal cancer.
Prior to his post at Michigan, he served as professor of Medicine and co-program leader of Reducing Cancer Disparities at the University of California San Diego Moores Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Colorectal cancer will be the focus of the 10th annual Meharry/Vanderbilt U54 Partnership Cancer Retreat to be held Saturday, Jan. 15, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Meharry Medical College, West Basic Science Building, Room 1206.
During the retreat, Carethers will deliver the Dr. Philip Browning memorial lecture, “How DNA Mismatch Repair Defects Drive Colorectal Cancer.”
The free retreat is co-sponsored by VICC and Meharry, in collaboration with Tennessee State University.
