Hamm, Yeatman named ‘Women to Watch’

Hamm was recruited to Vanderbilt from Northwestern University in 2000 to chair one of the most distinguished pharmacology departments in the country. She is the Earl W. Sutherland Jr. Professor of Pharmacology and professor in the departments of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, and Orthopaedic Surgery & Rehabilitation.
Hamm is a world leader in G proteins, intracellular molecular switches that translate and transmit signals from membrane-bound G protein-coupled receptors deep inside the cell. Learning how G proteins interact with their receptors could lead to new drugs for disorders as diverse as thrombotic diseases and Alzheimer’s disease.
Yeatman, a flight nurse-turned-manager and EMT who also has an MBA and a master’s degree in Organizational Management, oversees one of the largest academic medical center-based transport programs in the country. LifeFlight has a $10 million annual budget and a staff of more than 150 professionals who average more than 3,000 trips each year.
In addition to managing its critical transport program, Yeatman also launched an Event Medicine division, which supplies care and transport at many of Nashville’s athletic and entertainment events.
“I am fortunate to work with some amazing, committed team members,” she said.
