Light honored by Spain’s U. of Lleida
Richard Light, M.D., professor of Pulmonary Medicine, has been awarded an honorary degree from the University of Lleida in Spain.
The Doctor Honoris Causa is the highest honor granted by the institution. The degree, which recognizes scholars from all branches of learning, is given once each year. The University of Lleida, founded in the 13th century, is one of the oldest universities in the world.
Light was recognized for his expertise in pleural disease. In 1972, he developed Light's Criteria to separate the two types of pleural effusions, and the guidelines are still used today.
