Wood to deliver Discovery Lecture
Alastair J.J. Wood, M.B., Ch.B., professor emeritus of Medicine and Pharmacology, will deliver the next Discovery Lecture, “Drug regulation: Time for a radical change,” on Jan. 29 at 4 p.m. in 208 Light Hall.
Wood joined the Vanderbilt faculty in 1978, later serving as assistant vice chancellor for Clinical Research and as associate dean for External Affairs.
Since 2006, he has been a managing director of Symphony Capital LLC, a biopharmaceutical investment firm in New York City.
A nationally known expert on drug safety, Wood was drug therapy editor for The New England Journal of Medicine for 19 years, and chaired the FDA advisory committee that in 2005 reviewed the safety of COX-2 inhibitors.
Wood's talk, part of the Grant R. Wilkinson Distinguished Lectureship in Clinical Pharmacology, is sponsored by the Division of Clinical Pharmacology and by the Department of Pharmacology.
