Before heading back to school, 75 physicians and school nurses from Kentucky, Mississippi and 19 counties in Tennessee came together at the recent “Diabetes UPDATE” conference at Vanderbilt to discuss how to care for students with diabetes. The outreach program, now in its fourth year, was organized by the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. At right, Vanderbilt's Nancy Pittman, R.N., a certified diabetes educator, helps familiarize conference attendees with the tools required to care for students with diabetes.
