Stead to step down from Chief Strategy Officer role after decades of remarkable contributions

Visionary — someone who thinks about the future or advancements in a creative and imaginative way, a person who is ahead of her or his time and who has a powerful plan for change in the future. Such a person is William “Bill” Stead, MD, Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Chief Strategy Officer, McKesson Foundation Professor of Biomedical Informatics and Professor of Medicine.

William Stead, MD, VUMC’s Chief Strategy Officer, is a 2019 recipient of Duke Medical Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumnus Award. Considered a pioneer in the application of communication and information technology to improve the practice of medicine. Stead, left, is flanked by Janet Stead, W. Stead honored by American Medical Informatics Association

On the evening of Nov. 16, in Washington, D.C., William Stead, M.D., associate vice chancellor for Health Affairs and chief strategy officer for Vanderbilt University Medical Center, received a welcome surprise. The setting was the National Press Club and the occasion was the annual leadership dinner of the American Medical Informatics Association, where the field’s top awards are presented.
