VUMC mourns loss of former Dermatology leader King
Longtime faculty member Lloyd E. King Jr., MD, PhD, who joined Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 1977 as chief of the Division of Dermatology, died Feb. 8 at Vanderbilt University Hospital after a brief illness. -

Members of Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute (VHVI) gathered for a photo last week to recognize National Wear Red Day — an observance created by the American Heart Association and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute to raise awareness of heart disease, which is the leading cause of death in the United States. -

VUMC a national leader in organ, tissue donations
A total of 109 people gave the gift of life as deceased organ donors at Vanderbilt in 2021, resulting in saving 280 lives, more than any other year, and more patients generously gave their gift of organs at Vanderbilt last year than any other single hospital in the United States. -

Vanderbilt and CDC research shows third vaccine dose key to preventing omicron hospitalization
Vanderbilt research shows that two doses of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine result in lower effectiveness for preventing hospitalization for the omicron variant than previous variants. However, importantly, a third (“booster”) vaccine dose significantly improves protection against omicron hospitalization up to 86%.
