Vanderbilt University Medical Center has received a five-year, $1.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to develop “bold and innovative approaches to broaden graduate and postdoctoral training.”

When it comes to government funding of basic science training programs for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, Vanderbilt University Medical Center hit a grand slam this year, officials said.

Seventeen members of Vanderbilt University’s faculty have been elected fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) this year.

Since the Academy was established in 2002, more than 650 undergraduates have participated in the summer research program. About 10 percent have pursued graduate and/or medical studies at Vanderbilt.
