On Saturday, Oct. 16, 21st Avenue South will be closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic between Scarritt Place and Edgehill Avenue between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Emergency vehicles will be exempt from the closure.
Contracted helicopters will be doing airlifts of air conditioning equipment for the Vanderbilt Library from the University School of Nashville parking lot and the sports field between USN and Wesley Place garage.
The FAA requires the road closure for safety purposes.
Vanderbilt University police officers will be stationed at Scarritt Place and Edgehill Avenue and there will be barricades, traffic cones and signs to re-direct traffic.
Vehicles will be directed to an alternative route around the block to 19th Avenue South, and then back to 21st Avenue South.
Foot traffic will be diverted to either 19th Avenue South, or across the footbridge and behind the library on the Vanderbilt campus side and back to the roadway past the library.
