The Credo Award recognizes staff and faculty who exemplify the Medical Center's standards for service and all-around professionalism, while the Five Pillar Leader Award goes to those who exemplify Medical Center leadership standards. Awards are bestowed each quarter.
The Credo Award went to Edie Vaughn, R.N., staff nurse (on 9 South), and Sherron Buchanan, assistant to the chair, Department of Psychiatry.
The Five Pillar Leader Award went to Mark Sullivan, Pharm.D., MBA, director, Vanderbilt University Hospital pharmacy operations.
Andy Peterson, manager, Volunteer Services, introduced Vaughn and read comments about her from colleagues.
“'Edie spoils everyone she comes into contact with. She's such a joy to work with and to watch her welcome every patient with her smile.’ … ‘Edie brings warmth, laughter and insight to our workplace. Edie has been walking the Vanderbilt Credo every moment of every day long before the Credo was even published.'”
Stephan Heckers, M.D., chair of Psychiatry, introduced Buchanan.
“She is the warm voice and friendly face of the department. She's always calm in the most challenging situations. Sherron personifies the elevate goals. In my annual evaluations of performance, she is the only one who always gets five-out-of-five on all six Credo statements,” Heckers said.
Jim Hayman, administrator, VUH pharmacy, spoke of Sullivan's leadership on a number of departmental projects, including preparations for the opening of the new Critical Care Tower, starting a departmental newsletter and arranging compliance with new environmental regulations.
“Day in and day out, Mark has consistently demonstrated leadership by example and he has set the bar very, very high. A true servant-leader,” Hayman said.
