Awards honor those who exemplify service
The latest Credo Award and Five Pillar Leader Award honorees were announced Tuesday at the Leadership Assembly at Langford Auditorium. These awards are bestowed each quarter.
The Five Pillar Leader Award went to Bryon Pickard, director of operations, VMG Business Office. The award goes to those who exemplify Medical Center leadership standards.
The nomination for Pickard read, in part, “He regards every staff member as important, regardless of rank. This is truly a unique and humbling example of leadership, one I personally wish all members of management emulated.”
The Credo Award recognizes staff and faculty who exemplify the Medical Center's standards for service and all-around professionalism.
The award went to:
• Martha Bennett, assistant manager, Guest Services, Vanderbilt Medical Group. The nomination recounted how, after a long day, Bennett volunteered to accompany a patient who was unable to get herself from the One Hundred Oaks campus back to her car, which was parked on the main campus.
• Heather Cucullu, R.N., research nurse specialist III, Clinical Trials Shared Resource. “She always volunteers to help cover patients when other research nurses are overburdened. She is very good about recognizing the need and stepping up without being asked,” the nomination read in part.
• Sue McKenzie, patient advocate, Patient Affairs. The nomination stated, “She is a reminder to all of us who work with her: The patient is the reason we are here!”
• Robert Miller, M.D., associate professor of Clinical Medicine. “Dr. Miller is the most giving, sharing and respected physician I have had the opportunity to work with,” the nomination read in part.
In addition to his work as a pulmonologist with Hillsboro Medical Group, Miller is medical director of the Shade Tree Clinic, where Vanderbilt medical students provide primary care on a charitable basis.
