Vanderbilt University Medical Center has signed an agreement to serve as a training site for Belmont University's newly launched School of Pharmacy.

Belmont students will be able to take advantage of Vanderbilt facilities and learn skills such as patient-focused care and pharmacy product dispensing technologies.

Belmont's School of Pharmacy was established earlier this year and its first class of students will enter in fall 2008. The school's dean is Philip Johnston, Pharm.D., formerly assistant director for Education and Research for Vanderbilt's Department of Pharmaceutical Services.

He said he hopes the relationship between the two institutions will grow into future research and entrepreneurial opportunities.
