Biostatistical support for VUMC investigators

The Division of Biostatistics is growing to support researchers in grant development and long-term biostatistical collaborations. The growth of the Division of Biostatistics is part of the university commitment to increasing the research caliber of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Bonnie LaFleur and Patrick Arbogast have recently joined the Department of Preventive Medicine as faculty members within the Division of Biostatistics. They are supported, in part, by development funds provided by Lee Limbird, Ph.D., associate vice chancellor for Research. As part of their responsibilities at VUMC, they will provide support to Medical Center investigators in grant development activities. They also have some time available to work with investigators who have funding support for long-term biostatistical collaborations.

LaFleur received her Ph.D. in Biometrics from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and a M.P.H. in Biometry from San Diego State University. She has over nine years of experience in biostatistical consulting, and has collaborated on papers submitted and published in The Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Journal of Infectious Diseases, Journal of Child and Adolescent Substance Abuse, and The Journal of the American Statistical Association.

Arbogast received his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the University of Washington. He has seven years of experience collaborating in a number of studies investigating cardiovascular disease, as well as two years of general biomedical research consulting experience. His areas of expertise include case-control studies, cardiovascular disease, and goodness-of-fit methods. He has also collaborated on papers published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Archives of Internal Medicine, Circulation, Blood, the American Journal of Epidemiology, Epidemiology, and Biometrics.

Researchers interested in biostatistical support should send an e-mail message with a brief description of their needs to biostatistics@mcmail.vanderbilt.edu, or contact Dr. William D. Dupont, professor of Preventive Medicine. Members of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center should continue to contact Dr. Yu Shyr, associate professor of Preventive Medicine, for support. Investigators supported by the Clinical Nutrition Research Unit should contact Arbogast. Members of the Division of Neonatology should contact LaFleur. Faculty members in the Division of Biostatistics can be reached at 322-2001.
