Canon to direct Books from Birth

Susan Canon has joined the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt as the executive director of Books from Birth of Middle Tennessee. She will be responsible for leadership and management of the program that provides a free book each month to qualifying children under age 5.

“Susan brings a world of non-profit experience, and will help us reach more children and continue to expand this exciting program,” said Mary Kate Mouser, director of Children's Health Improvement and Prevention at Children's Hospital.

Previously, Canon served as the executive director of the non-profit Domestic Violence Intervention Center in Nashville for the past 17 years. She received her undergraduate degree from Ottawa University in Kansas and a master of divinity degree from Vanderbilt University.

Books from Birth was made possible by the collaborative contributions of the Imagination Library, Jo's Reach Out and Read, Nashville Public Library, Nashville READ, the Governor's Books from Birth Foundation, WTVF NewsChannel 5 and various community partners.
