Child welfare collaborative honors Vanderbilt’s Graham
More than 20 years ago, Thomas Graham, M.D., professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at Vanderbilt University, began volunteering at Monroe Harding, the lead agency for the Middle Tennessee Collaborative, a group of child welfare agencies in the state.
Graham served on its board of directors for six years, the last two of which he served as board chair. He now serves on the advisory board and has been involved in a variety of volunteer projects with the agency. He currently tutors a fourth-grader in reading once a week.
“It's interesting and it's fun.” Graham said. “He's improving his reading.”
For his commitment, Graham was recently honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award in Volunteerism during Monroe Harding's Bridge to Success Luncheon.
“I didn't feel deserving, but I was very honored to receive the award,” Graham said.
Monroe Harding promotes “positive growth for children, youth and young families,” through residential living programs, foster and adoption services, a youth resource center and services for at-risk youth.
