Construction mishap to slightly delay debut of new parking garage
The opening of Vanderbilt University Medical Center's newest parking garage is expected to be delayed only a few weeks after portions of the facility collapsed Sunday evening.
No one was at the garage at the time of the accident.
The 4,100-car parking garage was originally scheduled to open in January, 2000.
The collapse happened when a beam supporting several concrete slabs on an upper floor of the 11-story structure tilted. The damaged parts represent less than 2 percent of the 1.25 million-square-foot garage.
The garage, being built by Hardaway Construction Corp., is located at the corner of 25th Avenue South and Highland Avenue.
