Fazio, Linton elected to Association of American Physicians
They were formally inducted with 61 other nominees April 27 during the joint annual meeting of the AAP and American Society for Clinical Investigation in Chicago.
They join about 33 other current Vanderbilt faculty members who are members of the AAP.
Fazio is the Cornelius Vanderbilt Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine, professor of Medicine, and of Pathology, Immunology and Microbiology, and section chief, Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Program. He earned his medical degree from the University of Rome, Italy and his Ph.D. in Experimental Medicine from the University of Siena.
Linton is the Stephen and Mary Schillig Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology and director of the Vanderbilt Lipid Clinic and co-director of the Atherosclerosis Research Unit. He earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee, Memphis. He did his residency training at Vanderbilt and postdoctoral training in Endocrinology at the University of California, San Francisco.
The Association of American Physicians is a nonprofit, professional organization founded in 1885. The association is composed of more than 1,300 active members and about 600 emeritus and honorary members from the U.S., Canada and other countries.
According to the AAP, the goals of its members include the pursuit of medical knowledge, and the advancement through experimentation and discovery of basic and clinical science and their application to clinical medicine.
Each year, individuals having attained excellence in achieving these goals, are recognized by nomination for membership by the Council of the Association.
