Foundation honors Najjar’s pediatric diabetes efforts
The Middle Tennessee Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) recognized Vanderbilt’s Jennifer Najjar, M.D., assistant professor of Pediatrics, with its highest honor: the Living and Giving award for support of people diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
Najjar was recognized at the JDRF Promise Gala, Saturday, April 28, at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel.

“We chose to honor Dr. Najjar not just because she has done great work with children at Vanderbilt, but also because she founded a summer camp almost 30 years ago that offers a fun environment for children to meet others with type 1 diabetes. That camp has grown over the years and this summer will host 60 campers,” said Mary Lyn Schuh, executive director of the Middle Tennessee JDRF chapter.
Camp Sugar Falls is a one-week day camp for children ages 6 to 12 who have been diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. This summer it will take place at Camp Widjiwagan at the Joe C. Davis YMCA Outdoor Center.
