Gabbe to speak at U. of Rochester
Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Dean Steven Gabbe, M.D., is speaking to University of Rochester graduates today during their commencement ceremonies in New York.
Gabbe, a leader in maternal-fetal medicine and medical education, has been recognized for numerous achievements throughout his career, according to Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry Dean David Guzick, M.D., Ph.D.
“Dr. Gabbe's extensive experiences as a medical faculty member, chair and dean provide him with important insights that can form the basis for a compelling commencement speech,” Guzick said.
“Beyond this, however, the reason we invited Dr. Gabbe to be our commencement speaker this year is his commitment to education, his humanism and the way in which he has been a role model for so many physicians in training.”
Gabbe will be presented with an honorary Doctor of Science degree, presented to persons of “great scholarly or artistic achievement,” during Rochester's School of Medicine and Dentistry Ceremony.
“One of the most widely cited perinatalogists in the United States, Dr. Gabbe has influenced the practice of obstetrics over the past three decades through his research on high-risk pregnancy and, in particular, on diabetes in pregnancy,” Guzick said.
“Throughout his career in maternal-fetal medicine, he has demonstrated an exceptional ability to integrate discovery and scholarship in a way that facilitates learning and clinical practice.”
