Veronica Gunn, M.D., assistant professor of Pediatrics at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, has been named medical director for the Governor's Office of Children's Care Coordination (GOCCC).
In this newly created position, Gunn will help the GOCCC office facilitate the coordination of childrens' services as provided by the various state agencies and a number of child advocacy groups.
As part of her responsibilities, she will work with the GOCCC office to revise early intervention efforts to be evidence-based best practice, “so we can reach all children who need them in an efficient, equitable manner,” she said.
“We're working to prevent children from falling through the cracks,” Gunn said. “When you identify a child's needs early, the outcomes are better.”
Gunn said she will also work in the area of policy development and evaluation around children's health issues. She will spend half her time in her new role, and half at Children's Hospital.
