IT expert Johnson set for upcoming Discovery Lecture

Kevin Johnson, M.D., an internationally recognized developer of clinical information technology, will deliver the next Discovery Lecture on Thursday, Dec. 8. His lecture, “Evaluating Electronic Health Information Exchange: An Exemplar of the Science in Clinical Informatics,” will begin at 4 p.m. in 208 Light Hall.

Johnson is professor and vice chair of Biomedical Informatics and professor of Pediatrics at Vanderbilt.

His research has focused on developing and encouraging the adoption of clinical information systems to improve patient safety and compliance with practice guidelines.

He has promoted the use of advanced computer technologies in medicine, including the World Wide Web, personal digital assistants and pen-based computers, and the development of computer-based documentation systems for point-of-care use.

Johnson is a member of the Institute of Medicine and has participated in IOM committees related to child and adolescent health and health care quality and to medication errors.

He is an associate editor for the preeminent journal in biomedical informatics, JAMIA.
