Lee aboard as VUMC's first executive director of Medical Center Communications
Joel G. Lee has been named executive director of Medical Center Communications for Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
In the newly created position at VUMC, Lee will oversee and be responsible for all aspects of the medical center's internal and external communications, including advertising, promotions, and public relations. He will act as the primary communications consultant to VUMC's senior leadership, providing recommendations on what information should be communicated to the medical center's large and varied audiences and how it should be presented.
Lee comes to Vanderbilt from the University of Maryland Medical System, where he served as vice president for Market Development and Communications.
"Joel has proven highly effective at creating communications initiatives for a large health care facility," said Dr. Harry R. Jacobson, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs. "We look forward to him using his wealth of experience and creativity to lead VUMC's communications and marketing efforts and present the institute's vision in what has become a highly competitive and dynamic health care environment."
Prior to joining the University of Maryland Medical System in 1993, Lee served as deputy secretary in Maryland's Department of Economic and Employment Development, where he was responsible for a development authority with an annual operating budget of $150 million.
Lee is set to begin at VUMC in September.
