Magnet update
Just days from now, the four American Nurses Credentialing Center appraisers will be at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and its clinics for the Magnet Second Designation site visit.
The Magnet second designation process started more than two years ago, and culminates with the Feb. 20-24 site visit. As units make their final preparations, here are some basic things to consider:
• Have a friendly and approachable demeanor, make eye contact and smile.
• Do not guess at answers. Ask for help from colleagues, or say you’ll find out and make sure you follow up in a timely manner.
• Answer questions confidently. Be truthful and sincere, and keep conversation at a succinct and professional level.
• Take turns responding to questions. Include as many staff as possible and include disciplines other than nursing.
• Magnet appraisers are not here to evaluate our physical environment, but impressions about the work environment are important, so call Environmental Services or designated service for dirty hallways, full sharps containers, unattended cleaning carts, etc.
• If you see food or drink in work areas where they don’t belong, remove them.
