Marnett’s research lauded by American Chemical Society
Lawrence Marnett, Ph.D., University Professor and director of the Vanderbilt Institute of Chemical Biology, is the first recipient of the George and Christine Sosnovsky Award for Cancer Research from the American Chemical Society.

The award recognizes “outstanding achievements in the elucidation of the chemical and biochemical pathways underlying human cancers, leading to the discovery and development of improved cancer therapeutics.”
The award, which includes a $5,000 prize, will be presented during the ACS national meeting in San Diego in March.
Marnett, who will give a lecture during the awards symposium, also holds the Mary Geddes Stahlman Chair in Cancer Research and is a professor of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Pharmacology.
He has received numerous honors for his research, which includes the role of the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme in cancer and inflammation.
Last year Marnett was named to the second class of ACS Fellows in recognition of his “outstanding contributions” to chemistry and the ACS.
