Kristen Young, left, smiles as she receives a special medallion from Dean Colleen Conway-Welch, Ph.D., in the “Crossing the Bridge” ceremony at VUSN. The pre-specialty or “bridge” program allows students who meet specific requirements to enter the masters program of study at VUSN with no prior nursing experience. They are recognized in a special ceremony when they complete the first year of the program and move into their chosen specialty areas of nursing study. Last week, 142 students officially completed the pre-specialty program. In the other photo, Priscilla Simms, left, and her sister, Tiffany, look at the medallion Priscilla received during the Crossing the Bridge ceremony. Two other students, Sean Smithey and Cynthia Barrett, were given a special award of excellence from former VUSN dean Luther Christman, the first male dean of a nursing school in the country.
