Bryon Pickard, director of operations for the Vanderbilt Medical Group business office, has been named president-elect of the American Health Information Management Association.
Pickard will lead the association as president beginning in January 2007. The organization's 50,000 members are concerned primarily with the operational side of health information management, as opposed to systems development and more strictly technical issues.
Today, the organization's chief concerns include privacy and security of personal health information, standards for data interchange and interoperability, adoption of electronic health records and the nation's health information infrastructure. In the present era of electronic record-keeping and globalization, the organization remains committed to advancing health information management through advocacy, education and certification.
