Brent Polk, M.D., director of the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, has been appointed to a national subcommittee that is key to the future of research in gastroenterology. The Digestive Diseases and Nutrition C Subcommittee, or “C committee,” advises the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) arm of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
“I am very excited about being appointed to this committee because it gives me the opportunity to help guide young people early in their careers to apply for grants that are likely to be successful in career establishment and have a positive impact on the future of people with digestive disorders,” Polk said.
Polk's four-year appointment to the 20-member C committee of the NIDDK is expected to be advantageous to the Vanderbilt Digestive Disease Institute, which he directs. Polk says what he learns about the process of federal grant selection will be valuable information to further hone the grant process here.
