Promotions complete VMC leadership team
The final pieces are now in place for Vanderbilt Medical Center's executive leadership team, following Tuesday’s announcement of the promotion of Warren Beck, M.B.A., to associate vice chancellor for Health Affairs and senior vice president for VUMC Finance.
Beck succeeds Rick Wagers, senior vice president for Medical Center Finance, who is leaving Vanderbilt at the end of this month after three decades of service to the institution.
“Warren is an outstanding leader who has been with Vanderbilt for two decades. He is well deserving of this expanded role, and I am extremely confident in his ability to steward the Medical Center's finances,” said Jeff Balser, M.D., Ph.D., vice chancellor for Health Affairs and dean of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
Beck has been in his current role as vice president for Finance for clinical enterprise for the last 13 years. Prior to joining Vanderbilt, he was with KPMG Peat Marwick, providing health care consulting services in the New York metropolitan area.
Also announced Tuesday, Joel Lee, who has served as associate vice chancellor for Vanderbilt Medical Center Communications since 1997, will depart at the end of the month.
All Medical Center marketing functions will now be overseen by Jill Austin, chief marketing officer, while functions of the Office of News and Public Affairs will continue to report to Bill Hance, longtime director of the office.
Austin and Hance will now report to Balser.
“Both Rick and Joel have been highly visible and effective leaders at Vanderbilt and have contributed enormously to the success of VUMC,” Balser said. “Like everyone here, I am deeply grateful for their many years of service. I also look forward to working with Warren, Jill and Bill in their new leadership roles."
The moves announced Tuesday represent key components of the Medical Center's new leadership structure, Balser said.
“The team is in place, and we look forward to continuing to advance Vanderbilt University Medical Center's mission.”
