Providers, clinics honored for high quality of care
Providers and clinical teams at Vanderbilt University Medical Center have won 15 Top Performer Awards and 151 5-Star Awards in the 2007 Excellence in Healthcare Awards, sponsored by Professional Research Consultants Inc.
The Excellence Awards are based on patient responses to a single survey question regarding overall quality of care, which PRC asks on behalf of all its clients. PRC conducts surveys of patient attitudes for VUMC and some 1,800 other hospitals and health systems.
“I congratulate all our 2007 Top Performer and 5-Star award winners,” said Harry Jacobson, M.D., vice chancellor for Health Affairs. “These individuals and teams know better than most how to win the loyalty and cooperation of patients, and the high quality of care they provide is an ongoing example for us all. I'm proud of every one of our award winners.”
This year, 422 of the 1,359 physicians and allied health professionals in Vanderbilt Medical Group were eligible for awards. All inpatient work groups and a majority of outpatient work groups were eligible. Award eligibility is based on the number of survey responses gathered by PRC.
Top Performer Awards go to those who score in the 100th percentile in the PRC database, while 5-Star Awards go to those who score within the 90th to 99th percentiles. All eligible providers in the database are ranked against all other eligible providers, but clinical services are instead ranked within categories — inpatient units, specialty clinics, primary care clinics, outpatient hospital services, emergency departments, home health programs, and urgent care.
The awards were given out Tuesday at the PRC client conference in Bonita Springs, Fla.
