The Otology Group merges with Vanderbilt
The Otology Group, a Nashville ear practice with a national patient base and an international reputation for quality, recently merged with Vanderbilt Medical Group and the department of Otolaryngology.
About 70 percent of the group’s patients come from outside the region, said Dr. G. Gary Jackson, M.D., president and sole owner of the practice since the retirement in 1998 of the group’s founder, Michael E. Glasscock III, M.D.
In addition to renown as a center for medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the ear, The Otology Group has established a preeminent fellowship program.
“The Otology Group has developed a worldwide reputation for excellence in the treatment of neurotologic disorders,” said VMG Chief Operating Officer David R. Posch, who negotiated the agreement for Vanderbilt. “The merger with Vanderbilt Otolaryngology establishes the foundation upon which The Otology Group’s legacy will be continued.”
“As a clinician, your contribution is defined in part by what you leave behind you,” Jackson said. “The merger with Vanderbilt presented an ideal opportunity to perpetuate the practice and its nationally recognized training program in otology and neurotology.”
“The parties to this merger each bring complimentary strengths,” said Robert H. Ossoff, Guy M. Maness Professor of Surgery and chairman of the department of Otolaryngology. “Dr. Jackson’s prominent and busy ear practice and fellowship program are a perfect fit with our department’s increasingly comprehensive programs in patient care, education and research.”
The newly constituted Otology Group of Vanderbilt includes Jackson, David S. Haynes, M.D., Robert F. Labadie, M.D., Ph.D., James L. Netterville, M.D., Brian B. Burkey, M.D., Fred H. Bess, Ph.D., Gary Jacobson, Ph.D., David M. Kaylie, M.D., Edward K. Gardner, M.D., and nurse practitioners Kenneth E. Watford and Lori Crews.
In addition to offices in The Vanderbilt Clinic, The Otology Group of Vanderbilt has off-campus sites at 300 20th Ave., N., Suite 502, and at Saint Thomas Medical Plaza West, 4320 Harding Rd., Suite 503. The members of the group perform procedures at Vanderbilt, Baptist, Centennial and Saint Thomas hospitals.
