Levi Watkins Jr., medical pioneer and champion of racial equality, dies

Levi Watkins Jr., a renowned cardiac surgeon, champion of racial equality and diversity, and the first African American to be admitted to and graduate from Vanderbilt’s School of Medicine, died Saturday from complications after suffering a stroke.
