Oct. 2, 2014, 9:10 AM

Harsh Trivedi, M.D., MBA, associate professor of Psychiatry, vice chair for Clinical Affairs for Vanderbilt’s Department of Psychiatry, and executive director and chief medical officer of Vanderbilt Behavioral Health, has been selected to serve on the American Hospital Association’s Governing Council on Psychiatric and Substance Abuse Services.

Harsh Trivedi, M.D., MBA

The AHA Section for Psychiatric and Substance Abuse Services has more than 1,660 members from across the country and is comprised of executives from general hospitals and freestanding specialty hospitals that provide behavioral health services. The section provides forums linking members with shared interests and missions to advise AHA on policy and advocacy activities and to discuss issues of great importance to behavioral health providers and the field as a whole.

Trivedi has also been elected chair of the American Psychiatric Association’s (APA) Council on Healthcare Systems and Financing.

The council, one of the major policy making components of the APA, is involved in all aspects of achieving parity for psychiatric services with all other medical treatment.

The council deals with issues of access to care and appropriate reimbursement for that care in both the public and private sectors, and is actively involved in fostering the integration of psychiatric care with delivery of primary care services and the development of models of care and reimbursement that will make integration a reality throughout the health care system.

In his role as chair, Trivedi will oversee the work of a number of committees and workgroups that deal with specific issues related to the council’s charge.
