Jun. 7, 2018—Student-run free health clinics, a hallmark of most medical schools across the country, not only provide valuable clinical experience for the students who volunteer there, but may actually reduce hospital utilization by the patients in their care, according to a Vanderbilt study recently published in the Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved.
May. 17, 2018—In his message to the class of 2018 at Commencement last Friday, Jeff Balser, MD, PhD, President and CEO of Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Dean of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, spoke of the increasingly high cost of health care, and the role the new graduates might play in bringing it under control as they venture into their new careers.

Apr. 19, 2018—Two Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (VUSM) students were recently chosen by the Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE) to participate in a two-week program in Germany and Poland that uses the conduct of physicians in Nazi-occupied Europe as a way to reflect on medical ethics today.

Mar. 15, 2018—The Vanderbilt University School of Medicine student-run Shade Tree Clinic was founded in 2004 as a means to provide primary care to Nashville’s uninsured population and to allow medical and nursing students to receive valuable hands-on training while providing healthcare to those in need.
Mar. 8, 2018—Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, Meharry Medical College and Tennessee State University Cancer Partnership recently hosted the 2018 annual retreat and poster contest, “Health Disparities in Cancer Immunology & Immune Therapy.”
