Music will set the tone for Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center’s annual Cancer Survivorship Celebration for patients, friends and families.
The event, “Songs of Inspiration,” will be held Sunday, June 8, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Vanderbilt Student Life Center.
The afternoon of free music, stories and celebration for those touched by cancer will feature performances by three successful songwriters with a long line of hits in their repertoires.
Grammy-nominated and Dove Award-winning songwriter Steven Dale Jones has written hits recorded by Diamond Rio, Reba McEntire, Tanya Tucker and Ty Herndon. He has earned eight ASCAP awards for most performed songs and a pop award for the crossover hit “One More Day.”
Texas-born and Grammy-nominated songwriter Jay Knowles has penned tunes for singers Alan Jackson, Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins and his song “She’ll Leave You With a Smile” was a No. 1 single for George Strait.
Jimmy Robbins, who started his career with Universal Motown Records, moved to Nashville in 2010 and has already garnered three No. 1 hits and multiple Grammy, ACM and CMA nominations for his songwriting.
In addition to the musical presentations, the event will feature a Kids Zone with special activities for children. Light refreshments will be served.
The Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and Gilda’s Club Nashville are co-sponsors for this year’s activities.
