Donna Seger, M.D., professor of Clinical Medicine and medical director for the Tennessee Poison Center, has received a fellowship in the European Association of Poison Centres and Clinical Toxicologists(EAPCCT).
The fellowship is awarded to EAPCCT members who have demonstrated commitment to the organization and to the specialty of Clinical Toxicology.
Seger was among the first North Americans to receive this distinction and received the fellowship at the 50th anniversary of the EAPCCT held in Brussels, Belgium, May 27-30.
As past president of the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology (AACT), the sister organization of the EAPCCT, Seger increased collaboration and research between the organizations and was later awarded the AACT’s Distinguished Service Award. Seger also serves as deputy editor of the journal Clinical Toxicology, the official journal of both the EAPCCT and AACT, and is a previous Roche Award recipient, which recognizes leadership and contributions to the field of Clinical Toxicology.
“Clinical Toxicology is a very small field in Europe and North America, so it is extremely important that the European and American organizations collaborate to further both the research and the clinical aspect of toxicology,” Seger said. “There is now a strong bond between the organizations that will continue to move the specialty forward, and I am honored to be recognized for the role I played in increasing this collaboration.”
Founded in 1964, the goal of the EAPCCT is to advance knowledge and understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of all forms of poisoning. The EAPCCT has members from 56 countries.
