Frank Harrell Jr., Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Biostatistics, has received the 2014 W.J. Dixon Award for Excellence in Statistical Consulting, conferred by the American Statistical Association.
Harrell received the award in August at North America’s largest annual gathering of statisticians, the Joint Statistical Meeting — known to an army of avid attendees as simply the JSM — held this year in Boston.
The award citation, which is individualized each year by the ASA awards committee, read, “For exceptional contributions to advancing the science and art of statistical consulting and collaboration by developing innovative, widely used, statistical methodology and statistical software; for outstanding mentoring of faculty and students, and for superb leadership and teaching of the fundamental principles associated with these activities.”
