Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center’s (VICC) 10th annual Songs from the Heart concert will be held Friday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m., in the Vanderbilt University Student Life Center Ballroom, 310 25th Ave. South.
This year’s event, a joint partnership between VICC and Gilda’s Club Nashville, will be an evening of art and music benefiting the VICC Caring Hearts Fund. Proceeds support cancer patients at VICC who are having difficulty paying for their housing costs, utilities or other obligations of daily living while they are undergoing treatment.
This year’s concert will feature professional songwriters Jan and Chris Harris along with Jim Weber who will put song lyrics written by cancer patients, family members or health care professionals to music.
Artwork created by artists from across Tennessee whose lives have been touched by cancer will be in focus this year. Some treatment masks worn by cancer patients during their radiation therapy and donated for decoration by various artists also will be on display. Guests are invited to view the diverse styles of artwork and bid on the pieces through a silent auction.
“We are so excited to welcome these musical performers who will be guiding our budding songwriters as they try to express their emotions through song lyrics,” said Cindy Tinker, LMSW, VICC Social Worker and organizer of the annual event. “The addition of the art show brings a new dimension to this event that we think the audience will really enjoy.”
The Songs from the Heart event will include light desserts and beverages. Free parking is available in the 25th Avenue Parking Garage.
Admission for this year’s event is $35 per person. For questions call 615-322-7459 and to purchase tickets, visit www.vicc.org/songs-heart.
