Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) has been named to the Becker’s Hospital Review roster of 100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Oncology Programs.
The annual review recognizes medical systems leading the nation in providing high quality cancer care while ensuring a superior patient experience.
Hospitals on the Becker’s Great Oncology Programs list offer patients comprehensive cancer care provided by teams of specialists, including precision medicine protocols and participation in clinical trials.
Becker’s Hospital Review is a monthly publication offering business and legal news and analysis related to hospitals and health systems. The publication has issued a version of the Great Oncology Programs list since 2012 and VUMC and Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center (VICC) have been recognized multiple times.
“We are honored once again to be awarded this recognition by Becker’s Hospital Review for the excellence of our cancer care program,” said Jennifer Pietenpol, Ph.D., Benjamin F. Byrd Jr. Professor of Oncology, director of VICC and Executive Vice President for Research at VUMC. “This respected program highlights the exceptional quality and compassionate care that our clinicians and staff provide to VICC patients, along with our nationally recognized research programs and precision therapy options.”
VICC is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only such center in Tennessee providing care for both adult and pediatric patients.
The Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on their record of rankings, designations and outstanding achievement awards. To compile the list, Becker’s examined U.S. News & World Report cancer care rankings, CareChex cancer care rankings, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association Blue Distinction Center designation, National Cancer Institute (NCI) designations and American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer accreditation and awards.
VUMC was recently named one of the nation’s best providers of specialty care by U.S. News and World Report, and has also been named the No. 1 hospital in Tennessee and the Metro Nashville area. In the newest edition of “America’s Best Hospitals,” VUMC had 11 out of a possible 16 specialties either nationally ranked or designated as nationally high performing, including cancer care.
