Kelly McQueen, M.D., MPH, professor of Anesthesiology and Surgery and director of Vanderbilt Anesthesia Global Health and Development, has received the 2017 Nicholas M. Greene, M.D., Outstanding Humanitarian Contribution Award from the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA).
She was presented the award Oct. 23 in Boston during the ASA annual meeting.
The award recognizes an ASA member whose career supports international humanitarian aid and disaster relief or education and training in low-income countries.
McQueen has been professionally active in global health and a contributor to international humanitarian efforts since the start of her career. She directs the Department of Anesthesiology’s Global Anesthesiology Fellowship and is a past president of both the Global Surgical Consortium and the Alliance for Surgery and Anesthesia Presence.
In 2008, McQueen served as the founding chair of ASA’s Committee on Global Humanitarian Outreach. In 2010, she received the International College of Surgeons Surgical Volunteerism and Humanitarian Award.
McQueen studied biology at Colorado College, her medical degree is from the University of Vermont College of Medicine, and her master’s in public health is from Harvard.
