Annual voting for U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals” rankings opens soon. The online reputation surveys for adult hospitals and pediatrics will be distributed through Doximity (www.doximity.com) in February. Beginning this month, a small sample of paper ballots will be mailed to eligible specialists who did not register on Doximity by November 15, 2018.
U.S. News determines eligibility to vote in the surveys by board certification in 16 adult and 10 pediatric specialties (see tables below). In 12 adult and all 10 pediatric specialties, the reputation survey accounts for 30 percent of each year’s “Best Hospitals” score. In 6 adult specialties, the reputation survey currently accounts for the entire score.
Last year, VUMC achieved recognition among the top 20 adult hospitals on the “Best Hospitals Honor Roll,” in part due to increased support by voters in the reputation survey. Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital continued to earn national ranking for all 10 pediatric specialties.
The reputation survey is an important opportunity for School of Medicine graduates, former house staff and fellows to support Vanderbilt. Our U.S. News ranking impacts recruiting, training programs and the medical center’s prestige.
The data-driven metrics considered by U.S. News include patient survival, patient safety, nurse staffing and the use of certain clinical technologies.
