Mitchell Edgeworth, MBA, Chief Executive Officer of Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital, has accepted a new position as Chief Administrative Officer — South with the TriStar Division of Hospital Corporation of America, and will be leaving Vanderbilt University Medical Center this month.
Hired in 2012 as the adult hospital’s chief operating officer, Edgeworth was promoted to chief operating officer for both Vanderbilt Adult University Hospital and Clinics in 2014, and was later named to succeed David Posch, MA, as the adult hospital’s CEO in June 2015.
“We have been fortunate to have an outstanding leader like Mitch supporting the missions of our health system. His insights and contributions have been important to the growth and success of our adult clinical enterprise,” said C. Wright Pinson, MBA, MD, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Health System Officer for VUMC. “I want to wish Mitch the best in his new role at HCA and thank him for his years of service to the Medical Center.”
At VUMC, Edgeworth has been responsible for key aspects of operational performance for the adult clinical enterprise and has worked closely with clinical department chairs and operational leaders throughout the health system.
“Serving VUMC has been a highlight of my career, and I will forever be grateful for the opportunities given to me and the relationships built over the past seven years. I am continuously amazed with the talent, compassion and dedication to each other and the community we serve. I wish nothing but success for VUMC in the future and will always be a supporter for the academic mission that is so vital to our industry,” Edgeworth said.
Prior to joining VUMC, Edgeworth was with Quorum Health Resources, where he served as regional vice president and was responsible for the operational performance for 12 hospitals located across multiple states. Prior to Quorum, he worked for Tenet Health System serving in leadership roles, including CEO of Doctors Hospital in Dallas.
Edgeworth holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Lipscomb University and a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering degree from Georgia Tech. He received his Master of Business Administration from Duke University while working at Duke University Health System as a management engineer of performance services.
The search process to identify a successor will begin immediately. Scott McCarver, Chief Operating Officer of Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital, will assume the role of acting director of the hospital.
