Big Machine Label Group (BMLG), a longtime supporter of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, recently celebrated the opening of the Big Machine Neighborhood, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) wing on the new 11th floor of the hospital.
Big Machine Label Group President, CEO and Founder Scott Borchetta, along with his wife and BMLG SVP, Creative, Sandi Spika Borchetta, joined Children’s Hospital leaders for an official ribbon cutting and a behind-the-scenes tour of their wing of the floor.
“As part of our NICU, the Big Machine Neighborhood will help us better serve our smallest and most vulnerable patients. We are so thankful to Scott and Sandi Borchetta and Big Machine Label Group for helping us care for even more of these tiny patients,” said Meg Rush, MD, MMHC, president of Children’s Hospital.
“Our expansion, including this latest floor opening, is truly made possible by the amazing support and generosity of our community and partners. I am also grateful to and proud of our amazing physicians, nurses and staff who have worked tirelessly over these last several months to prepare for the upcoming floor opening,” she added.
The new 40,000-square-foot floor includes a 23-bed NICU as well as 15 acute care beds, increasing the total number of beds within the hospital from 305 to 343.
“We wanted to do something for Nashville specifically, because this city has given so much to us. This was a fantastic opportunity for us to be part of the community and give back,” said Borchetta.
Attendees for the ribbon cutting included nine-time Grammy Award-winner Sheryl Crow, country stars Rascal Flatts (Gary LeVox, Joe Don Rooney and Jay DeMarcus) and Thomas Rhett; chart-topping singer/songwriter Carly Pearce, patients and their families. Children’s Hospital Advisory Board members Allison DeMarcus, Kathryn Carell Brown, daughter of the late Monroe Carell Jr. and Ann Scott Carell, Kix Brooks and Clarence Spalding also showed their support at the event.
The Big Machine Neighborhood is decorated with music-themed art, including some of the label’s most iconic artists, as well as with the group’s signature race car logo.
As ongoing supporters of Children’s Hospital, Big Machine Label Group and its artists have frequently visited the hospital and been involved in fundraising events within the community.
“The Big Machine Label Group staff and all of our amazing artists are super excited to be a part of this,” said Spika Borchetta. “But the real work comes from the nurses, the doctors and the brave parents. We salute them, and we welcome them to the Big Machine Neighborhood. Music has value, music connects and music definitely heals.”
